There is a small group of Shrapnells in Michigan who are the only direct named descendants of a once great Shrapnell dynasty. One of their ancestors Richard Shrapnell (1655 - 1730) is remembered to this day on a plaque in St James Church, Trowbridge as the Town Benefactor. His children became major traders working regularly between Trowbridge and London. Also in this line were father and son doctors who were friends and colleagues of the famous EDWARD JENNER gratefully remembered worldwide for his smallpox vaccine (q.v.).

There are also several members of the Scrope branch represented here.
